Those who are passionate about cribs will again have something special to look forward to this Christmas. As in past years, Festivals Malta is launching the National Cribs Competitions for Christmas 2018 in six different categories. The categories are divided according to the cribs’ size, whether they are mechanical, the originality of the materials used, as well as the concept itself. In each category monetary prizes will be awarded to the best three winners, who will be chosen by members of the jury.

Apart from the crib competitions, there will also be the Malta Convention for European Friends of the Crib 2018 in November. The convention is being hosted by Friends of the Crib in Malta, known locally as the Għaqda Ħbieb tal-Presepju, founded in 1986 with the aim of reviving the tradition of setting up a crib at home for Christmas. The convention, which will take place between 7 and 11 November, will offer the opportunity to Friends of the Crib from Europe and beyond to get together and celebrate friendship through the diversity of crib traditions in Europe and around the world.
